The Council on Aging for Henderson County (COAHC) has joined #GivingTuesday, a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities, and organizations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide. Occurring this year on November 28, #GivingTuesday is held annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving (in the U.S.) and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday, to kick-off the holiday giving season and inspire people to collaborate in improving their local communities and to give back in impactful ways to the charities and causes they support.

COAHC will be accepting donations towards their #GivingTuesday campaign to benefit their Meals on Wheels program, which will serve over 75,000 meals to homebound seniors this year. Their goal is to raise $500 to fund 50 meals, or the equivalent of 5 seniors receiving a week’s worth of food. Clients are getting much more than food though. When volunteers deliver meals, they are also ensuring the general well-being of the homebound recipient, as well as having heartfelt interactions that mitigate the negative effects of social isolation. In many instances, the interaction Meals on Wheels clients have with volunteers is one of the only interpersonal connections they will have throughout the week. This work is vital, especially to an aging community like Henderson County, and the Council on Aging needs community support to make sure No One Ages Alone. There is currently a waitlist for services due to growing demand and a lack of funding. Your generosity could help to minimize that waitlist so all seniors in our community get the help they need.

“GivingTuesday inspires people all around the world to embrace their power to drive progress around the causes they care about, not just on one day but throughout the year.” said Asha Curran, GivingTuesday’s CEO, and co-founder. “With country and community leaders, millions of organizations, and countless givers of all kinds, GivingTuesday is creating a shared space where we can see the radical implications of a more generous world.”
