Healthy Dietary Supplement

Do you or someone you know have issues that prevent you from getting adequate nutrition from regular food?

Whether it is digestive issues, problems with your mouth or teeth, or the inability to tolerate solid food, liquid nutrition products can help you to maintain a proper diet.

Once authorized, you can receive up to two cases of Ensure Plus (not pictured), Glucerna, or approved alternative on a monthly basis. 

You may purchase additional cases at cost from the Council on Aging for Henderson County’s main office.

Eligibility Requirements

Recipient must be a resident of Henderson County, NC, living independently.

The recipient must have a medical situation that prevents them from receiving adequate nutrition from regular food. This includes difficulty chewing, swallowing, or processing food as well as disease-related malnutrition. 

A physician’s authorization will be required before new clients are able to start the program. The physician’s authorization must contain: the new client name, the physician’s name and office, the physicians prescriber ID, and the maximum number of authorized cases.

Every six months, a physician needs to submit a reauthorization form and clients need to complete reassessment.  Every other six month assessment must be done in person. It is the responsibility of the client to make sure the physicians authorizations are up to date. Service will be denied without a current authorization.

Pick Up Times

You may pick up product at the Meals on Wheels drive-through at the Council on Aging for Henderson County Monday through Friday, 11:00am through 4:00pm only.

In order to prevent an interruption in the Meals on Wheels service, please arrive no earlier than 11:00am.  If you arrive earlier than 11:00am, you MUST wait until all volunteers and/or staff have departed with meals for the day. 

Waiting List

Due to limited funding for the Liquid Nutrition program, as well as shortages on certain products, new referrals to the program may be placed on a waiting list.

As funds become available for this program, we will serve those who have the greatest need and have been on the waiting list the longest first. Priority is determined by the Nutrition Team at the Council on Aging.

Liquid Nutrition supplements may be available for direct purchase depending on supply and staff capacity.
