COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Update

Update on Friday, March 27, 11:30 am

Starting Monday, March 30, the Council on Aging office will have limited coverage.

We will be delivering frozen meals weekly to our Meals on Wheels clients.  Volunteers will reach out to clients daily by phone.

The Sammy Williams Center congregate dining site remains closed.  Call the Sammy Williams Center at 828-692-3320 if you have a need for food during this time.

Liquid nutrition clients will be able to pick up product at the following times:

  • Monday: 1:00-4:00pm
  • Tuesday: 9:00am-12:00pm, 1:00-4:00pm
  • Wednesday: 9:00am-12:00pm, 1:00-4:00pm
  • Thursday: 1:00-4:00pm
  • Friday: 1:00-4:00pm

The caregiver respite program continues to serve caregiver clients.  Call 828-692-4203 with any questions.

Our community resource coordinator will continue to take calls for information and assistance.  Call 828-692-4203 for assistance.

The Council on Aging Thrift Stores located in Hendersonville and Etowah remain closed until further noticce.  Please check our Facebook pages at facebook.com/HVLThrift/ or facebook.com/EtowahThrift/ for any updates or changes in our re-opening date and donation status.

Our utmost concern is for our senior clients and the volunteers and staff members that serve them. These emergency measures require extra funds beyond those currently available for food delivery during a time when our thrift stores are not operating to help fund our programs. If you would like to support us in our efforts to maintain our food delivery service, go to coahc.org/donate.  Please write “for COVID-19 response” in the honor/memory box.

Thank you to our community members, local business partners and volunteers for your continued dedication and support through this time.

We will continue to monitor the situation and receive daily guidance and updates from Meals on Wheels America, the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, US Centers for Disease Control, World Health Organization, North Carolina Emergency Management and local public health agencies.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to call us at 828-692-4203. We want to encourage everyone to take all the recommended steps to stay safe and healthy.
