Partnership for Independent Living
(PFIL) is a collaboration between the Henderson County Department of Social Services and the Council on Aging. It is designed to support and advocate for older adults age 60 and above living in Henderson County. As experienced Social Workers, we have insight into many issues surrounding housing options, in-home services, food insecurity, and more. Our staff performs in home assessments to determine the needs of older adults requesting assistance. As they learn of available resources, their quality of life improves and they have the tools which enable them to remain independent for as long as possible.
Family Care Giver Respite Program
If you are a caregiver for an older adult age 60 and above and meet specific eligibility requirements, you may be eligible to receive Caregiver Respite Grant Funds. Respite funds are made available through a grant awarded to the Council on Aging for Henderson County by the Land of Sky Regional Council. Caregiver respite services offer temporary relief for the caregiver which may help to relieve stress and improve quality of life.
Heat Relief Program
Our agency is the recipient of grants from Duke Energy Progress and Duke Energy Carolinas. These grants allow us to purchase and distribute fans to eligible residents of Henderson County during the summer months.
Care Management services are intended to assist older adults, age 60 and above, residing in Henderson County with complex physical and/or cognitive care needs. Client needs are identified by the Social Worker and Nurse who perform a comprehensive in-home assessment. A detailed care plan is developed and implemented to assure the necessary services are accessed so the older adult may remain living independently in their own home as safely and as long as possible.
